8844 SCSI host to Pertec peripheral
Introduction
The DIL 8844 is a microprocessor controlled board developed to enable Pertec Interface Magnetic Tape Drives to be connected to SCSI host platforms.
The 8844 implements a custom designed chipset comprising of a dual channel Direct Memory Access (DMA) controller and a Pertec Interface controller which together allow a high data transfer rates across both host and slave interfaces simultaneously.
Primary applications are in the communication and telecoms industry where modern exchanges using SCSI interfaces still rely upon Pertec ½" magnetic tape units (MTU's) to record logging and billing information.
More recently the 8844 is being applied in the open systems environment where information stored on tape has to be compatible between platforms and interfaces.
